Crossing Continents: A Seamless Journey from France to South Korea (via China)
In early October, a 40HQ container began its long journey from France to South Korea, a complex multimodal route that tested coordination, timing, and resilience. The operation involved multiple transport modes: trucking from France to Duisburg, rail to Xi’an, onward trucking to Qingdao, ocean transport to Korea, and final delivery by road to Busan.
The Logfret Lyon/Rail team expertly managed pre-carriage arrangements and customs documentation, ensuring a strong start to this intricate route. The estimated door-to-door transit time of around 35 days demanded precise coordination across regions, with every handover handled seamlessly by the network.
However, midway through the operation, challenges arose. The temporary border closure at Terespol from 12 to 23 September disrupted rail operations across Europe, creating network congestion that persisted even after reopening. Yet, thanks to the close collaboration between Logfret France and Logfret China, the teams adapted swiftly, maintaining transparent communication, adjusting plans, and keeping the shipment moving despite the constraints.
This project also marked the first trial of this particular transit route, requiring careful coordination across multiple customs jurisdictions. Both teams demonstrated agility and expertise in aligning processes and ensuring compliance from origin to destination.
As timing grew critical, Logfret implemented an innovative change of plan, switching from a standard container vessel (with a 2–3 day transit time) to a faster ferry connection to Incheon, cutting transit to just 18 hours. The Logfret Korea team provided exceptional destination support, maintaining close communication with the consignee and efficiently handling the on-carriage to ensure timely delivery to the final door.
From France to China and Korea, this journey stands as a powerful example of Logfret’s global coordination and problem-solving capabilities.
